Balapitiya HC Hands Death Penalty to Duo in 2005 Murder

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two individuals found guilty of committing murder using a sharp weapon were today sentenced to death by the Balapitiya High Court.

The order was delivered by Balapitiya presiding High Court Judge Priyantha Liyanage.

The murder took place on 4 September 2005 in the Ahungalla, Balapitiya Madhuwa area, where the victim was attacked with a sharp weapon and his throat slit. The Attorney General had filed indictments against the accused before the Balapitiya High Court over the incident.

The victim was a three-wheeler driver from Thalgasgoda, Ambalangoda.

Court proceedings revealed that the accused had hired the victim’s three-wheeler under the guise of a hire ride and subsequently murdered him.

At the time of the crime, the first accused was 16 years old, while the second was 20 years old.
