Two Cops Granted Bail Over Jinthupitiya Shooting

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Two police officers arrested on charges of dereliction of duty in connection with the recent shooting in Jinthupitiya, Colombo, have been released on bail on the orders of the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

The suspects, a sergeant and a constable attached to the Aduruppu Street Police Station's night patrol were produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court prior to being granted bail.

The shooting occurred last Saturday around 8.15 p.m. at a barbershop located in Colombo 13, Jinthupitiya. 

Two individuals had arrived on a motorcycle, after which the gunman entered the barbershop and opened fire at those inside, while the rider remained on the motorcycle.

The gunman discharged approximately 17 rounds during the attack. Five people inside the barbershop sustained injuries, and one of them later succumbed to his wounds.
