Purse Seine Fishing Issues To Be Discussed

COLOMBO(News 1st); Deputy Minister of Fisheries Ratna Gamage said that the joint committee appointed to address the issues in the fishing industry will begin its discussions from today.

He said the joint team will include five representatives of the fishermen and five officials from the Ministry.

A group of purse seine fishermen began a satyagraha near the Presidential Secretariat on the 5th, demanding permission to carry out fishing using tractors and winches.

The fishermen ended the satyagraha last Friday after holding discussions with the President.
