COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s judicial landscape marked a significant milestone with the reopening of the refurbished Supreme Court Complex, restored with assistance from the Government of China.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya underscored that strengthening judicial infrastructure is directly tied to rebuilding public confidence.

She noted that modern, well‑equipped facilities create an environment in which the judiciary can operate with the dignity and independence expected of a democratic state.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the public is closely observing the future conduct of the Court, particularly the decisions that will be handed down within its renewed walls. She stressed that Sri Lankans anticipate a justice system where the rule of law is upheld consistently and where every individual is treated equally before the law.

Amarasuriya emphasised that the judgments delivered inside this building will shape the country’s identity, determining how justice, democracy and the rule of law evolve in the years ahead. She pointed out that these decisions will also influence the legitimacy of one of the most central pillars of the state and the constitution.

She described the occasion as a moment of profound historical importance, adding that the symbolic key handed over during the ceremony represents the hope for future rulings that are both principled and historically significant. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the efforts of those working within the Supreme Court will ensure justice continues to be upheld throughout the country.

She expressed trust that the renovated complex will continue its longstanding role in protecting the rights of every citizen and serving the people of Sri Lanka for generations to come, just as it has done throughout its history.
