COLOMBO (News 1st); The Constitutional Council, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, is scheduled to convene today (3).
During the meeting, the Council is expected to consider the recommendations submitted regarding the appointment of the new Auditor General.
The Council last convened on Friday.
That meeting marked the first session of the Constitutional Council attended by the three newly appointed civil society representatives.
Accordingly, Professor Wasantha Senewiratne, Austin Fernando, and Ranjith Ariyaratne, appointed with the mutual agreement of the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, participated in the session.
However, a final decision regarding the vacant position of Auditor General was not reached during that meeting.
Chief Government Whip Bimal Rathnayake, who serves as the President’s representative in the Constitutional Council, stated recently that a decision on the appointment of the Auditor General is expected to be taken at today’s meeting.
