Six Officers Released on Bail Over Assault on Catholic Priest

COLOMBO (News 1st); The six police officers who were arrested and remanded for the alleged assault of a Catholic priest were released on personal bails of Rs. 500,000/= each today.

This order was issued when the case was called today before the Gampaha Chief Magistrate, Seelani Perera.

During an identification parade held earlier today, the Catholic priest successfully identified three of the six officers involved.

The Chief Magistrate also imposed an overseas travel ban on the suspects and ordered the case to be recalled on April 30. 

These officers, who were arrested following the priest's formal complaint, have already been suspended from their duties. The group consists of three sergeants and three constables.
