Sri Lanka, EU Discuss Key Development Areas

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra met the Director for Asia and the Pacific at the Directorate-General for International Partnerships of the European Commission, yesterday in Brussels, Belgium.

The meeting focused on Sri Lanka’s ongoing development trajectory and the opportunities available through the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative.

The Director for Asia and the Pacific at the Directorate-General for International Partnerships conveyed positive sentiments regarding Sri Lanka’s recent progress, highlighting the growing stability in the country and the improved predictability in national governance and economic management. 

Deputy Minister Hemachandra reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to transparent governance, rule-based institutions, and responsible reforms aimed at strengthening international confidence.

Both parties agreed to deepen cooperation in several priority areas, including sustainable infrastructure, digital connectivity, renewable energy, skills development, and people-centred economic growth.
