Six Dead in Kadugannawa Rockfall ; Rescue Operations Concluded

COLOMBO (News 1st); Six people have succumbed to their injuries from incident in Lower Kadugannawa where a rock fell on a house and a shop this morning. 

Sri Lanka Police stated that rescue operations at the site have concluded. 

The rockfall occurred at around 8:45 this morning along the Colombo–Kandy main road, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area. 

The Colombo–Kandy main road will remain closed. 

Rescue operations to free those trapped commenced this morning with the intervention of the Army, Sri Lanka Police, Fire Control Unit of the Kandy Municipal Council , Disaster Management Centre, and local residents.

Individuals trapped in the earth were rescued on several occasions.

Of these, four people are currently receiving treatment at Mawanella Base Hospital.
