COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s ongoing national anti-drug operation has led to the arrest of 9,267 suspects within just seven days, according to the Police Media Division.
The crackdown, launched under the “National Mission for a United Nation”, aims to eliminate drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
Authorities reported the seizure of 95 kilograms of heroin, resulting in the arrest of 3,157 individuals linked to heroin-related offenses.
In addition, police apprehended 3,252 suspects in connection with ice (methamphetamine) trafficking, recovering 262 kilograms of the substance.
The operation also targeted cannabis distribution, leading to the arrest of 2,320 individuals and the seizure of 312 kilograms of cannabis.
Police confirmed that 209 suspects are currently being interrogated under detention orders, while 104 individuals have been referred for rehabilitation.
