COLOMBO (News 1st); Four individuals arrested in connection with the discovery of three dead bodies and a large quantity of narcotics at a residence in Seenimodara, Tangalle, are currently being interrogated under seven-day detention orders, police confirmed.
The suspects were presented before Tangalle Magistrate Shyamila Butawatta, who issued the detention orders to facilitate further investigation into the case.
The incident came to light on September 22, when police, acting on a tip-off, discovered two bodies inside the residence.
A third individual, who was found in critical condition, later died at Tangalle Hospital.
Post-mortem examinations revealed that the victims had ingested multiple types of narcotics, including crystal meth (ice), leading to their deaths.
Subsequent police operations uncovered a massive drug haul hidden in three lorries, including over 700 kilograms of heroin and ice, with an estimated street value of Rs. 10 billion.
Police have now arrested a total of six individuals in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the drug network involved.
