No Extra Charges For Card Payments? Discussions Underway

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Digital Economy says steps are being discussed to abolish additional charges on debit and credit card payments.

The Ministry confirmed that initial talks were held with the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), and the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).

The discussions also focused on ways the government could offset losses borne by consumers when making card payments.

The Ministry further noted that, going forward, all transactions will gradually shift to QR code–based payments via mobile phones.
