COLOMBO (News 1st)' Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is expected to hand over her official residence back to the government.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that no deadline has yet been set for former President Maithripala Sirisena to vacate his official residence.
This follows the passing of a new bill in Parliament, which removes privileges previously granted to former Presidents.
The bill was passed without amendments and has already been signed into law by the Speaker.
Under this legislation, effective from its commencement date, former Presidents — or their surviving spouses — will lose access to:
Official residences
Monthly allowances
Secretary allowances
Official transport
Any other state-provided benefits
Monthly pensions paid to surviving spouses
