COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court today ordered that the corruption case filed against former Minister Chandrani Bandara be recalled on September 23.
The case was heard before High Court Judge Sahan Mapa Bandara, where the legal team representing the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) requested permission to amend the indictment. The court granted the request, allowing the prosecution to submit a revised charge sheet.
Judge Mapa Bandara further directed that copies of the amended indictment be provided to the defense counsel. Once received, the defense has been instructed to file preliminary objections, if any, before the next hearing.
The charges relate to Bandara’s tenure during the Yahapalana government, where she served as the Minister of Women, Child Affairs, and Dry Zone Development. She is accused of abuse of power by allegedly appointing close associates to various positions in violation of public service regulations.
The original indictment was formally presented to the High Court on June 6.
