COLOMBO (News 1st); Chinese President Xi Jinping has laid out an ambitious blueprint for reshaping global governance, calling for fairness, justice, and multilateral cooperation during his address at the 25th SCO Summit in Tianjin.
Xi emphasized the need to reject Cold War-era thinking, bloc-based confrontation, and bullying behavior, urging member states to uphold a global system centered on the United Nations and a multilateral trading framework led by the World Trade Organization.
He also announced plans to accelerate the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Development Bank, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and providing financial support to member states.
Xi called for pragmatic reforms within the SCO, including the activation of specialized centers to address security threats such as narcotics and terrorism. He stressed the importance of enhancing the organization’s decision-making efficiency and resource capabilities.
“China has always linked its development with that of the SCO, aligning it with the aspirations of the peoples of member countries for a better life,” Xi concluded.
The summit, attended by leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marked a significant moment of Global South solidarity and a push for an alternative to Western-led global governance.
