COLOMBO (News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has strongly reiterated Sri Lanka’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity, emphasizing the strategic and emotional significance of Kachchateevu Island to the nation’s fishing communities.
Speaking ahead of a scheduled visit to the island this (1) evening, President Dissanayake stated, “Kachchateevu holds immense importance for our fishing community. A major public discourse has emerged around the island, and I intend to meet with the people there today.”
He underscored that Sri Lanka’s responsibility extends beyond land to include its maritime boundaries and airspace. “Whether it is our islands, our seas, our skies, or our land — they belong to our people. We are bound to protect them for future generations,” he declared.
The President assured that Sri Lanka’s sovereignty would not be compromised under any external pressure.
