COLOMBO (News 1st) - Deputy Director of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Dr. Rukshan Bellana confirmed that Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, released on bail by the court, continues to receive treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

In an early morning inquiry by News 1st, Dr. Bellana stated that complications arising from Wickremesinghe’s heart condition are now being managed effectively.

He added that the former President remains under close medical supervision.

During court proceedings yesterday, it was revealed that Wickremesinghe suffers from multiple health issues.

Appearing on behalf of the Former President, President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne, informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that due to a respiratory disorder affecting his sleep, Wickremesinghe requires a ventilator during rest — knowledge that was previously limited to his wife.

PC Premaratne emphasized the seriousness of Wickremesinghe’s health, stating that his client may be affected by a range of medical conditions.

Taking these medical considerations into account, Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura ordered Wickremesinghe to be released on bail with three personal sureties of Rs. 5 million, totaling Rs. 15 million.

Wickremesinghe had been remanded until yesterday at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court following charges of engaging in a private foreign trip involving the use of Rs. 16.6 million of public funds.
