COLOMBO(News 1st);Deputy Inspector General of Police for Western North, Nishantha de Zoysa says that Police have frozen assets worth approximately Rs. 4.5 billion belonging to organized criminals.
The seized assets include houses, vehicles, shops, lands, and bank accounts.
The move follows the recent passage of the Proceeds of Crime Bill in Parliament, aimed at streamlining legal action against illegally acquired assets.
DIG de Zoysa adds that a dedicated Crime Proceeds Investigation Division will soon be established to handle such cases.
