COLOMBO(News 1st); Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa visited former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is currently in remand custody.
Wickremesinghe is being held at the Prison Hospital after being brought to Magazine Prison last night.
After a medical check-up, he was admitted to the prison hospital on medical advice due to high blood pressure and blood sugar levels, the spokesperson added.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura had earlier ordered that Ranil Wickremesinghe be remanded until the 26th, following his arrest over allegations of misusing Rs. 16.6 million in public funds for a private trip.
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was arrested yesterday by the Criminal Investigation Department after being summoned to record a statement yesterday morning.
He was questioned in connection with an investigation into an alleged misuse of government funds.
The inquiry pertains to a private overseas trip said to have taken place on September 22 and 23, 2023, which reportedly involved ten individuals including the former President.
