COLOMBO (News 1st) – Anudi Gunasekara, Sri Lanka's proud representative at this year's Miss World competition, recently shared insights into her journey, aspirations, and future plans in an exclusive interview with News 1st's Buddmin Amaradiwakara.
Gunasekara expressed immense pride and happiness in fulfilling her childhood dream of competing at this year's Miss World Competition, a goal she'd held since she was 17.
Her main aim wasn't just to win, but to represent Sri Lanka to the best of her ability.
She highlighted the challenge of putting Sri Lanka on the global map, noting that many people she encountered during the Miss World Competition were unfamiliar with her home country beyond its tourism and tea. "Sri Lanka is a small country. They wouldn't even know... They know that it's very famous for tourism but they don't know anything about my country," she lamented. Her mission was to showcase the nation's vast resources and untapped talent, a goal she believes she successfully achieved. "I did my best and I'm so happy for everything that I've achieved," she added.
Reflecting on the incredible support she received, Anudi offered an inspiring message: never give up on your dreams. Having waited seven years to compete, she urged everyone to pursue their passions relentlessly, regardless of what others might say. "If someone says that it is too crazy to dream about something like that, it is not practical, it is impossible, do not listen to it," she advised, highlighting the importance of self-belief and embracing one's unique personality.
Addressing rumors of an acting career, particularly with Star Actor Vijay Devarakonda, Gunasekara clarified her stance. She firmly said, "I never wanted to be an actress." While she admires Devarakonda's work, her true passion lies elsewhere. She doesn't foresee herself in movies, as her ambitions are focused on a different path.
She revealed her clear career goals: she plans to join the United Nations and pursue a diplomatic career, alongside furthering her higher education. She concluded by saying, "You will see me in those places, but not in movies," outlining a future dedicated to global service and academic pursuits.
