COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives has announced that is discussing with Sri Lankan counterparts to facilitate a smooth transition for Maldivian travelers in light of Sri Lanka's new e-visa system.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives said that it is engaged in discussions with Sri Lankan counterparts to ensure a smooth transition for Maldivian travellers, following the announcement of a new e-visa system in Sri Lanka.

The current procedure allows Maldivians to obtain a free 30-day tourist visa upon arrival in Sri Lanka.

For stays exceeding 30 days, Maldivians can apply for a free 6-month visa online at https://www.srilankaevisa.lk/. This visa incurs an administrative fee.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives said it is committed to establishing a visa process that reflects the current visa agreement between the Maldives and Sri Lanka and ensures reciprocity for Maldivian travellers.

Discussions with Sri Lankan authorities are ongoing to address any remaining concerns.

At the same time, the Sri Lanka - Maldives Business Council in a letter to Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles, has requested not charge the visa fee from Maldivians and instead issue a 30-day visa without any charges to maintain the bilateral friendship and business relationship without any issues.
