COLOMBO (News 1st); In a bid to stabilize egg prices that have soared above Rs.60 per egg, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Security has announced plans to import eggs from India until April 2024.

Ranjith Athapattu, Secretary to the Ministry, confirmed that the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation, has been authorized to import sufficient quantities of eggs from India.

The high prices have placed a significant burden on households, particularly those reliant on eggs as a source of protein and nutrition.
