COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka has resumed construction of the second terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
Work was temporarily halted due to the economic crisis last year, according to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation.
As Sri Lanka defaulted on its debt, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had suspended its financial assistance.
The government has made significant progress with the International Monetary Fund, and as a result, Japan and JICA have decided to release the financial assistance to support Sri Lanka's development, Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said.
The construction of BIA’s second terminal has been given top priority, he said.
