COLOMBO (News 1st); Several provincial governors said the President or the President's Office have not informed them to resign in writing thus far.
They said therefore they have not reached a final decision regarding resigning from their posts.
When inquired by News 1st Governor of the Eastern Province Anuradha Yahampath said she only learned that she had been informed to resign from media reports, adding however that she was not officially informed thus far.
The Governor added that she is yet to reach a decision regarding her resignation.
We also inquired with Governor of the Uva Province A. J. M. Muzammil in this regard.
He said he will continue to remain in the post as Governor since he has not been informed to resign.
Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa said he is currently overseas and is prepared to resign only if the President informs him to do so in writing, upon his return to Sri Lanka.
Governor of the North Western Province Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda also said he will continue to work as the Governor as he has not yet been officially informed to resign from the post.
Although News 1st attempted to contact Governor of the Northern Province Jeevan Thiagarajah on several occasions, he did not respond.
A spokesperson of the President's Office said the Governors of the Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Northern and Eastern provinces were recently informed to resign.
He said it is tradition for governors to resign when a President resigns adding however that the governors had not resigned although several months have passed since President Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned and Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed as President.
The senior official at the President's Office said regional politicians had made several requests to remove some Governors.
