Landslides; red alert issued to Passara

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A Red alert on landslides has been issued to the Divisional Secretariat Division of Passara, of the ​​Badulla District.

Senior Geologist at the National Building Research Organization, Dr. Wasantha Senadheera stated that an Amber alert in this regard has been issued to the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Badulla Ella, Mahanuwara Ganga, Monaragala Badalkumbura.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology said that due to the development of a low level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showers can be expected over the island.

Accordingly, the department stated that rain or thundershowers will occur in many parts of the island in the evening or at night.

The Department of Meteorology added that heavy rains of more than 100 mm may occur in some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-West, Uva and Northern provinces, and heavy rains of more than 50 mm in other parts of the island.
