Dayasiri requests CJ to consider that President fled the country

COLOMBO (News 1st); Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara has directed a letter to the Chief Justice, requesting him to initiate functions in accordance with the 37(2) article of the Constitution, in consideration of the current predicament of the President and the Acting President.

MP Jayasekara in his letter states that it can be observed that the President has left the country and left it in a disarray, without facilitaing for an acting President, and the acting President too had become unable to carry out his functions in observation of the events which took place in the country during the last few days.

MP Dayasiri Jayasekara says that both the President and the acting President are currently unable to carry out their duties properly.

Therefore, the SLFP General Secretary MP Jayasekara requests the Chief Justice to initiate proceedings according t o the article 37(2) of the Constitution, and to discuss the future actions to be taken with the Speaker of the Parliament.

In the letter, MP Jayasekara emphasizes that the democratic rights of the people, fundamental rights, rule of law and preventing pushing the country into a dictatorship or anarchy all lies with the decision of the Chief Justice.
