COLOMBO (News 1st); Police reported that eight people have died due to road accidents within the past 24 hours. 

A young couple was reported dead in a road accident in the Welmilla area along the Bandaragama - Kesbewa main road, which Police said took place this morning (02) when the motorcycle they were riding had veered off the road and collided with a rock.

The deceased were identified as a 20-year-old male of Walgama, Bandaragama and an 18-year-old female residing in Kandy.

Meanwhile, another two people were reported dead when a tipper truck collided with a motorcycle along the Mulliyaweli Pudukuduirippu Kopapilavu ​​road.

The deceased, aged 48 and 17, were identified as residents of Mulliyaweli.

Another person was injured in the accident as well. According to the Police, the reckless and careless driving of the motorcyclist and the tipper driver have been determined the cause of the accident.

Moreover, a 30-year-old motorcyclist had died when he collided with a lorry and a motorcycle in the Makumbura area along the Homagama High Level Road.

A 27-year-old was reported dead in a road accident in the Galwanguwa area along the Habarana road in Trincomalee as well.

Police said the car in which the deceased was traveling had collided with a bus, adding that the accident had taken place due to the careless driving of the owner of the car.

Furthermore, a 10-year-old boy had died due to a motorcycle accident in the Henyaya Asadduma area in Pinnawala as well. 

Police said the accident had occurred when the 10-year-old had fallen off the motorcycle while it was traveling on a steep incline.

Another 22-year-old was reported dead in a road accident along the 128 km post on the Galle - Matara road. 

Additionally, a 35-year-old man was killed in a road accident in the Thandikulam area along the Jaffna-Kandy road while another 36-year-old had died in an accident along the Galkanda railway crossing in Negombo due to the bicycle he was traveling on colliding with a three wheeler.
