COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala says a new Bill aimed at controlling organized crime is expected to be presented to the Cabinet next week. He stated that the draft of the proposed legislation has already been completed.
Speaking further, the Minister said the government hopes to present the Bill to the Cabinet within the next two weeks and thereafter submit it to Parliament within another two weeks with the expectation of securing approval.
He added that the necessary laws, regulations, and amendments, as well as other requirements highlighted earlier, are essential for the police.
According to him, all of these will be provided step by step, with the Inspector General of Police offering direct contribution, involvement, and leadership to strengthen police operations.
