Over 500 cargo containers held at Port, say importers

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Importers' Association said that about 1,500 containers containing essential food items have been halted at the Port.

The media spokesperson of the Importers' Association Nihal Seneviratne said there are about 500 containers of rice among the cargo containers.

He noted that the containers contained Ponni Samba, Nadu and Kekulu rice, and these containers carrying 10,000 metric tons of rice have been imported from India.

Seneviratne said only a few containers have been released so far.

However, the importers have demanded that all containers be released at once.
