Over 500,000 letters held up at Central Mail Exchange

COLOMBO (News 1st); As a result of the token strike launched by Postal service personnel, around 500,000 letters have been held up at the Colombo Central Mail Exchange.

Deputy Post Master General Rajitha Ranasinghe stated that the distribution of the letters will commence on Wednesday (15) with the return of the employees.

Postal workers went on a token strike from 4 pm on 13th December until 12 midnight Tuesday (13) based on 24 requests including the recruitment procedure.

Co-convener of the United Postal Unions' front, Chinthaka Bandara stated that its members had withdrawn from the Colombo Central Postal Exchange and sub post offices.

The Deputy Post Master General also stated that the services of many post offices were not operational during the last two days.
