Ruling members and Opposition clash on Jogging Track

COLOMBO (News 1st); Local Government members representing the government and the opposition were captured on video engaged in an ugly brawl in Nawalapitiya.

The altercation broke out over an issue surrounding the construction of a jogging track close to the Jayathilake Grounds in Nawalapitiya.

SJB Organizer for Nawalapitiya Sampath Sanjeewa told News 1st that the grounds were constructed at a cost of Rs. 300 Mn and another Rs. 20 Mn from the taxpayer is to be used for the construction of a jogging track.

"We oppose misusing public funds like this," he said.

However, the Mayor for Nawalapitiya Amal Priyankara said construction already commenced under a government directive and the SJB organizer is opposing the move while he did nothing for the people during his administration.
