UNHRC to debate oral report on SL today

COLOMBO (News 1st): A debate with regard to the oral report submitted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet is due to be held today (14). Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, who is currently on a visit to Italy, is also scheduled to join the debate online today (14). The 48th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council commenced in Geneva yesterday (13). Presenting her report on the Member States and their progress since the last UNHRC meeting, the Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet also presented an oral report on Sri Lanka. She said the UN Human Rights Commission was closely monitoring the Government's recent emergency regulations and several other instances of arbitrary arrest and release of certain prisoners. The 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council will be held until October 08.
