COLOMBO (News 1st): The Court of Appeal today decided to conclude the hearing of the petition filed by Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Waruna Jayasundara.

This decision was taken as the Attorney General informed court that there is currently no decision to arrest him.

Senior DIG Waruna Jayasundara had filed the petition seeking an order preventing his arrest in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

The writ petition filed by Waruna Jayasundara was taken up today before a bench comprising Court of Appeal judges Shashi Mahendran and Aditiya Patabendige.

The court had earlier directed the Attorney General to explore the possibility of transferring the petitioner Deputy Inspector General.

Presenting submissions to court on that matter, the Deputy Solicitor General stated that the Inspector General of Police had forwarded the relevant recommendations to the National Police Commission.

Accordingly, as the Attorney General had given an undertaking to court that no decision has been taken at this stage to arrest the petitioner, the bench stated that further proceedings on the petition would be discontinued.
