COLOMBO (News 1st): Two Sri Lankan photographers were highly commended during this year's Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition organized by BBC Earth. 'The Great Swim' by Buddhilini de Soysa and 'Lockdown Chicks' by Gagana Mendis Wickremasinghe were chosen from 50,000 entries from 95 countries. A blood-spattered lioness, a gecko wrestling for its life in the grip of a snake and a slick of dead and dying herrings are among the photographs submitted to a prestigious exhibition. The Natural History Museum has released a selection of the highly commended images for its Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, which show a "planet under pressure". The highly commended entries have been announced ahead of the overall winners, however the grand title winner of the entire competition will be announced on 12 October.
