Prime Minister meets CBSL officials; Discusses COVID related financial issues

COLOMBO (News 1st): Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa discussed the current economic situation with Central Bank officials at Temple Trees on Wednesday (16).

The Prime Minister has instructed to take appropriate steps to alleviate the problems faced by the people who are facing various difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

At the meeting, it was pointed out that debtors have become unable to repay their loans due to having to pay interest on installments first, and the importance of devising a methodology to pay interest as well as the loan amount was discussed.

The Prime Minister's Office announced that the Prime Minister had sought to change the methodology by providing loans by taking into account humanitarian assistance as there are many instances where borrowers could lose their homes by mortgaging their residence.
