COLOMBO (News 1st): Very heavy falls exceeding 150 mm could be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, while heavy falls exceeding 100 mm could be expected in the Western, North-Western, and Southern provinces, the weather forecast for today (25) released by the Department of Meteorology noted.

A few showers are also likely in the Northern and North-central provinces.

South-west monsoon condition has established over the country, the Department of Meteorology said on Tuesday (May 25).

Wind speed could increase up to 50-60 kmph at times over the island and especially wind speed can increase up to 70 kmph at times in the Western slope of the Central hills, North-Central, and North-Western provinces and in Kegalle, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Mannar, Trincomalee, and Hambantota districts, the weather forecast read.

The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers, the Met Department emphasized.
