10 Arrested during Anti-Narcotics Operations: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police arrested 10 suspects during anti-narcotics operations conducted islandwide on Tuesday (Feb. 02). The Anuradhapura Police on Tuesday (02) arrested two suspects along with 2 kilograms and 200 grams of Cannabis in their possession. One suspect was identified as a Sri Lanka Navy officer and the other an ex-Navy officer who was expelled from service, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana added. A motorcycle was also taken into police custody during the raid. The two suspects will be produced at the Anuradhapura Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (02) and further investigations are underway. Meanwhile, two suspects aged 20 and 28 years were arrested in Nambapana, Ingiriya for the possession of 11 grams and 750 milligrams of Heroin. Another suspect was arrested in Thalahena with 7 grams of Heroin. A 25-year-old resident of Mattakkuliya was arrested near the Nawaloka roundabout in Peliyagoda for the possession of 4 kilograms of Cannabis. The Police Special Task Force on Tuesday (Feb. 02) arrested two suspects with 307 grams and 300 milligrams of Heroin while inspecting a car in Rajagiriya; STF recovered over Rs. 1.1 million during the arrest. Another suspect was arrested in Udayapuram, Mannar for the possession of 5 grams of Kerala Cannabis. A 22-year-old girl was arrested by Hanwella Police on Tuesday (02), for the possession of 55 grams of Heroin, 35 grams of synthetic narcotic known as ICE, and 5 grams of Cannabis, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said on Wednesday (03).
