COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Department of Management Services has granted approval to recruit graduates with Bachelor of Education degrees into the teaching service.
The Ministry of Education states that the recruitment process will be carried out at provincial council level before the end of this year.
Meanwhile, the Ministry says that the results of the limited and open competitive examinations held recently for recruitment into the teaching service are expected to be released in September this year.
Accordingly a total of 23,006 candidates are expected to be recruited based on the examination results.
15,000 teachers from the total candidates will be recruited through a limited competitive examination, while the remaining positions will be filled through an open examination.
Appointments are expected to be issued before the end of this year.
In addition, around 6,500 Diploma Holders are also expected to be recruited into the teaching service in December.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Education says more than 31,000 teachers will be recruited this year.
At present, Sri Lanka faces a teacher shortage of around 44,000 vacancies.
