COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police arrested 253 motorists in a 24-hour window for driving under the influence, police said on Saturday (Jan. 02).
"Since 20th December to-date, a total of 1824 drivers were arrested in connection with the offence of driving under the influence," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said.
According to Police, in the event an individual is found guilty of driving under the influence, the driver's license could be suspended.
"If a person is found guilty of the charge of drunk driving, he is fined Rs. 25,000 by the court and the court can either suspend or cancel the driving license on a request made by Police. Therefore, don't drive having consumed liquor," the Deputy Police sternly advised.
