COLOMBO (News1st): Namal Karunaratne, a former provincial councillor has challenged the Kurunegala Mayor who sent him a demand letter to charge him in court.
Karunaratne had filed a case against a group including the mayor fover the destruction of King Buwanekabahu II's Assembly Hall in Kurunegala.
"The Mayor had sent a Letter of Demand through his lawyer asking me to pay 500 million or that a case would be filed against me," the former councillor said.
"I wish to say that I will not pay even five cents".
Karunaratne pointed out that it is the group including the mayor who have bulldozed archaeological resources by claiming to have a wonderful reputation.
"We will receive an opportunity to make submissions to court on murders, and the ransoms that have been extorted. Therefore, please file a case," he remarked.
Although it has been 25 days since the archaeological structure was demolished, no action has been taken the individuals concerned.
