Much awaited gazette issued: NEC Chairman

COLOMBO (News 1st): The issuance of the extraordinary gazette titled, "COVID-19 Elections Regulations, No. 1 of 2020" will allow the smooth operation of election activities, while controlling the spread of COVID-19, Mahinda Deshapriya said. "The issuance of the gazette allows the National Elections Commission to conveniently conduct the operations of the election. The spread of COVID-19 can be controlled with the gazette," Mahinda Deshapriya - Chairman of the National Elections Commission said. According the Election Chief, further delay in the issuance of the gazette would have hindered the election proceedings, due to concerns on the spread of coronavirus. "As the National Elections Commission, we would've preferred if the gazette on COVID-19 Elections Regulations, was issued earlier. Thank you for the issuance of the gazette. Disappointed about delaying the issuance," Mahinda Deshapriya noted.
