1,500 Officers Recruited To Protect Elephant Fences

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Environment says the recruitment of 1,500 officers to protect elephant fences, along with the deployment of 5,000 Civil Security Department personnel, has now been completed.

Minister of Environment Dr. Dhammika Patabendi says the initiative is aimed at strengthening the maintenance and protection of electric fences used to mitigate human-elephant conflict.

The Minister further noted that the recruitment of an additional 532 officers has already commenced to oversee and regulate the operations of the newly deployed personnel.
