Colombo (News 1st): A number of institutions connected to the Ministry of Disaster Management have been moved under the purview of the Ministry of Defense. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa also holds the position of Defence Minister.

The move was officially announced in an extraordinary gazette highlighting the duties and functions of Ministers and respective ministries.

Accordingly, the Disaster Management Centre, Disaster Relief Services Centre, the Met. Department & the National Building Research Organisation will now come under the purview of the Ministry of Defense.

In addition, the Department of Registration of Persons, Department of Immigration and Emigration & the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board are also under the purview of the Ministry of Defense.

Further, the National Media Center, NGO Secretariat, Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team, Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka and related agencies, as well as Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Private Limited, will come under the purview of the Ministry of Defense.
