Bribery case against former President's chief of staff and the Chairman of Timber Corporation to be taken up on Dec 19th

COLOMBO(News 1st) -The Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar decided to deliver the verdict in the bribery case filed against former President's Chief of Staff Dr Kusumdasa Mahanama and former State Timber Corporation Chairman Piyadasa Dissanayake, on the 19th of December. The duo were charged under 24 separate indictments including soliciting a bribe of Rs 2o mn from an Indian businessman to grant permission to hand-over the buildings and steel owned by the Kantale Sugar Factory. The matter was called up in the presence of Justice Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne & Champa Janaki Rajaratne. Former President's Chief of Staff Dr Kusumdasa Mahanama and former State Timber Corporation Chairman Piyadasa Dissanayake were arrested on the 27th of February 2018 in a car-park at a popular hotel in Colombo when accepting the bribe.
