Colombo (News 1st): The national convention of pensioners who are in support the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was held in Colombo yesterday (September 25). The summit was led by the leader of the SLPP Mahinda Rajapaksa and the presidential candidate from the SLPP Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Speaking at the event SLPP Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa noted that in most of the countries the age of retirement has been extended, due to the modern medical advancements, a great service can be provided by senior citizens even past 63 years, in the military even passing 55 years. He added that instead of retiring at 45 or 35 years, he believes the experience and intelligence they have can offer the nation is a great service. Adding to this Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that the time has come for the government to retire because it came to power giving the people heaps of hope on the 8th of January. The people who were deceived you by those lies must be sent home. He added that all hopes were lost because their total tenure was used to take revenge. He said in the mindset of destroying their political enemy, the government did not have any time left to serve the nation.
