Keith Noyahr case: Suspects' bail condition removed by Mt. Lavinia Court

Colombo (News 1st): Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate C.H.G. Liyanage today (June 11) removed a bail condition imposed on suspect number 07 and 08 in the case filed over the abduction and assault on journalist Keith Noyahr. Eight suspects in the case are currently out on bail and were earlier ordered by the court to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department once a month. Counsel appearing for the suspects informed court today, that the suspects were members of Military Intelligence. Taking in to account the present situation in the country, appearing before the Criminal Investigations Department puts their lives at risk. Taking facts into consideration the Additional Magistrate lifted the bail condition on former Military Intelligence Director retired Major General Amal Karunasekara and retired Staff Officer Chandra Abeysuriya. The Additional Magistrate said he does not possess the power to lift the bail condition from the other suspects in the case adding that bail was granted to them by the High Court.
