COLOMBO (News 1st) - The 192nd model village, constructed in Lunugamvehera, Mattala, under the "Samata Sewana Uda Gammana" program, was vested in the public on May 27, under the auspices of Minister of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs, Sajith Premadasa.
This model village has been named "Ath Raja Gama" and was constructed at a cost of Rs.58.9mn. The model village consists of 68 residences. The village is complete with water services, electricity and roads.
The minister distributed "Visiri" housing loans to 500 low-income families, and spectacles to 45 visually impaired individuals at the event.
UNP Deputy Leader, Sajith Premadasa addressed the crowd at the event and noted that he would only construct houses for the general public and he would never provide them for his acquaintances as it is unethical and immoral. He added that he would never misuse government funds for his personal gain.
He went on to say that he would never invade someone's property. He finally noted that he feels a sense of pride when building houses for the underprivileged.
