International Cricket Council has decided to replace Bangladesh with Scotland for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Citing security concerns, Bangladesh recently refused to travel to India for this year’s T20 World Cup.
They requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to allow them to play their World Cup matches in a country outside of India.
Several rounds of discussions were held between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the ICC regarding this matter.
On the 21st of January, the ICC issued a statement declaring that there would be no changes to the 2026 T20 World Cup schedule.
This decision followed a discussion and a subsequent vote among the members of the ICC Board.
The tournament would proceed as planned, as the ICC confirms that investigations confirmed there were no credible security threats to players, journalists, or other stakeholders.
The ICC then granted Bangladesh a 24-hour window to announce their final decision.
In response—following consultations between the Bangladeshi Government, the Cricket Board, and the Players' Association—Bangladesh maintained their stance, refusing to compete in India.
However, they expressed hope that the ICC would still grant them the opportunity to play at a venue outside India.
Accordingly the ICC released its final decision today, officially replacing Bangladesh with Scotland for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
