Colombo (News 1st): Today Maldivians in several parts of the world began voting in the 2019 parliamentary elections. 264,589 individuals were registered to vote, while 386 candidates are contesting for 87 seats.
Voters began queueing up as early as 6 am, while the Elections Commission of the Maldives had finished transferring ballot boxes to polling stations across capital city Malé at around 7 am.
The voting began at 8 am in most parts of the country, while there was a delay in some areas. A total of number 144 ballot boxes were stationed across Malé while the total ballot box count for today’s polls was 501.
Voting was also held in Sri Lanka from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka.
