Colombo (News 1st): Only 76 days are left for the ICC Cricket World Cup... Are we ready? In the face of consecutive losses, we seem to only be making plans ahead for the World Cup. Is it not evident that this is simply a waste of time? A world cup is the pinnacle of all challenges for any team engaging in any sport. How are we to face such a mammoth task? Lasith Malinga is 35 years old. How fruitful would it be to plan a world cup, centering it around aging players? Besides rotating players in the face of a streak of defeats, what other plans are in place? Many great captains were bred at a very young age. Following are some prime example of prolific players,
  • Kane Williamson -21 years
  • Waqar Younis - 22 years
  • Graham Smith - 22 years
  • Kapil Dev - 23 years
  • Sachin Tendulkar - 23 years
  • Ravi Shashtri - 24 years
  • Arjuna Ranatunga - 24 years
  • Virat Kohli - 24 years
  • Aravinda De Silva - 25 years
  • Angelo Mathews - 25 years
  • Steve Smith - 25 years
These players assumed captaincy and steered their teams to greatness at a very young age. Against such a backdrop, the question arises as to how we can win a world cup when we are still merely in the process of selecting a fitting captain and a suitable team. Further, the Head Coach of Sri Lanka Cricket who enjoys a salary of exponential scale has failed to deliver according to the salary that he draws.

The ICC World Cup is a mere 76 days away.

When are we planning to get our act together?
