ICC Eyes Sri lanka Cricket Reset: Top Delegation Meets President AKD Amid Reform Push

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A delegation of International Cricket Council (ICC) representatives, including Imran Khwaja and Devajit Saikia, met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo on Thursday, as discussions continue on the future direction of cricket administration in Sri Lanka.

The meeting comes during the ICC officials’ ongoing visit to the country, at a crucial moment following recent structural changes and reform initiatives within Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). 

Attention remains firmly focused on governance improvements and the long-term administrative framework of the sport.

During the visit, ICC representatives also held discussions with the newly appointed Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee at SLC headquarters, with particular emphasis placed on strengthening governance standards, enhancing transparency, and driving structural reform within the institution.

The developments follow the resignation of the former Sri Lanka Cricket leadership, including ex-President Shammi Silva, who stepped down on 29 April, along with other office bearers and members of the Executive Committee. 

Their resignations were formally submitted to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage, and were subsequently accepted.

Following these developments, the Ministry of Sports appointed a nine-member Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee to oversee the administration of the sport until fresh elections are held. 

The committee is chaired by Eran Wickramaratne and includes former cricketers Roshan Mahanama, Sidath Wettimuny, and Kumar Sangakkara, along with Prakash Schaffter, Dinal Phillips, Avanthi Colombage, Upul Kumarapperuma, and Thushira Raddella.

The ICC visit comes at a pivotal juncture for Sri Lankan cricket, with ongoing high-level discussions expected to significantly influence the future governance and structural direction of the sport.
